Obey Attacks Reid in Push Poll

In a clear attempt to impact the Republican primary, individuals identifying themelsves as from Hart Research are calling Republican seniors in the 7th District and attacking Nick Reid on health care issues. According to their website, Dave Obey is a client.

This is the first time Obey has tipped his hand that he is worried about losing to Reid this fall, so he is going to work to try and take him out early.

Make no mistake about it, when a 37 year incumbent spends money to influence the Republican nomination process, it's a crystal clear indication that Dave Obey is none to confident about mood of the voters toward him in the 7th District. If you want to contribute to Nick to combat these dirty campaign tricks by Obey, click here to do so today. Reid has obviously seized momentum that worries Obey. Contribute today.

I guess we know who Obey thinks is the favorite to give him a run for his money this fall.

It seems Senator Obey is worrying about Mr. Reid because there is a great similarity between the two. Lots of monied interests and deep Washington connections for Mr. Reid.
It also seems as though this blog comment completely ignores the campaign of Mr. Tyberg whom is not "connected" but appears to have a better connection to the people he wishes to represent.

I, for one, am tiring of big money and endorsed power brokering.

To state that Reid and Obey have much in common is to reveal that one has not even taken a cursory look at the issues.

Sure, you can try to run a campaign with no money, no support (and no brains), but how far do you think that will take you? Nick Reid has raised almost all of his money from people just like you and me; people right here in the 7th district.

We haven't ignored the Tyberg campaign on this blog either. We have commented quite extensively about the fraud of a campaign he is running. Tyberg's only hope of success is for the 7-9% of support he has from the Republican side (people like Norm) are joined by the 100% of support from the Obey side unite to vote in the primary for Jeff. Then, in November, you'll get to see this:
Obey (D) 63%
Tyberg (R) 24%
Others 13%

I give him 24% just because we'll have a marriage ammendment on the ballot to pad his numbers.

Norm, first off Obey is a Congressman not a senator. Just an FYI. Second, I just love how doing your job and raising money and gaining support is a bad thing in the upside down world of Tyberg backers. So are all you guys hardcore Dems? I mean George W raised money, Ronald Reagan raised money, Tommy Thompson raised money, let me guess they are all corrupt too. Only Pope Tyberg is honorable guy right? This is crazy!

If Tyberg has so much support, it is interesting to note that it sure doesn't show up on his blog. Jeff has made 7 blog posts over the last couple of months and received 2 posts from others and added one of his own.

I guess even we here should possibly take notice and quit talking about him. The only problem with that is what I stated before; he is now the beneficiary of Dave Obey's campaign warchest through the primary. Thanks, Jeff, but don't expect many nice things being said about you here.

Bill Clinton could take a lesson in spin from the Tyberg backers. The fact that he can't raise money because he can't get any support isn't a bad thing that shows he not a viable candidate, it's actually good news because he won't be beholden to contributors. Let me guess the fact that he can't run any ads or send out any mailings is also a good thing because it means he's protecting the enviroment! And the fact that he skipped out on the biggest campaign weekend of the year to go on vaction, doesn't prove he is clueless, only that he is like most people of the district and on vacation. Wow.

Obey is running scared, that is the point of this post. He knows Reid has the support in place to beat him. That is now clear. Go Nick Go!!!!

Norm,

We did not ignore Mr. Tyberg. For the 9 months this blog was in existence before we endorsed Nick Reid yesterday, we tried to present a fair and balanced view of the race - kind of like Fox News - we report, you decide.

Facts are stubborn things though, and the facts are that in those 9 months, Nick Reid demonstrated that he had the superior campaign - not just a little bit better - it is a blow out.

The fact that Representative Obey is blasting away at Reid with negative smear tactics proves that Obey knows who the real threat is in this race as well.

As for being connected to the people of the seventh district, no candidate who was truly connected to the people of Wisconsin would have spent the 4th of July weekend in Washington, DC while running to represent them. Tyberg's trip to DC rather than meeting close to 100,000 people in his district that weekend was the event that pushed us over the edge on the endorsement.

We have nothing against Jeff Tyberg personally. He's a nice man who has done noble things in his life. What he hasn't done is demonstrate a serious campaign to win in November.

THE WAY A HEALTHY CAMPAIGN WORKS

Raising money IS being connected with the people you intend to represent.

What do you think the Reid campaign is spending the money on???? A full-time staff. What do you think the full-time staff does???? Grassroots activity. If you want to try to make the case that a campaign this focused on grassroots is less connected than one that has no money, go ahead. Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion, even if it is wrong, nieve or both.

Norm, you have it bass-ackwards.

Norm - I know you're from Grantsburg and Tyberg has played guitar and sung at your church, but if that's the criteria for gaining your vote, visit Red Cedar Church in Rice Lake and ask them about Nick Reid. It's yet another area where Tyberg has no advantage over Reid.

I think you mean Scott West in 1998.

Anyone remember this slogan?: "Do it - Dump Obey - It's Time." In the 94 election Scott West had this group pulling for him...excuse me...the district had this group opposing Obey, according to this file found on opensecrets.org

Its expenditures against Obey are located on the last page at the end.

I have heard anecdotal evidence of this group and its effectiveness. It would be great if someone could start something like this up again.

I think this blog, among other venues, are serving that purpose admirably. We have seen a strong grassroots movement emerging this time around and so many people I talk to are sick and tired of Obey's pro-homosexual, pro-illegal alien, pro partial-birth abortion stances.
