Why Voters Are Ready for Change

According to this Rasmussen poll, Governor Doyle's approval ratings are 51-48% overall. Sounds good for Doyle, right? Digging deeper however, to look at the intensity of voters, 19% strongly approve, 28% strongly disapprove. That's a bad, bad sign for an incumbent. It means nearly 2/3rds of those who say they approve of Doyle aren't solidly in his camp.

We suspect that Dave Obey's approval ratings are similarly soft.

There is an environment for change out there, what are we doing to take advantage of it?

I'm helping out with a lit drop for Reid this weekend here in Wausau. I'm sure Ryan is looking for more people to help us. If you can't give money help them out this way.

We'd really see voters ready for change if we had some candidates running hard for border security and ending the nonsense of having a sieve for a border and the non-citizen vote.

That's a winning issue on both sides of the fence (politically speaking) as Democrats are sick of it too. It's only the career politicians like Dave Obey that have no clue how angry the rest of us are about it.

Possible editorial or TV commercial:
37 years - still no border with Mexico. 37 years - still granting illegals citizenship. 37 years - open arms and open wallets for illegal aliens. 37 years - and Dave Obey wants Social Security benefits for illegals. 37 years - long enough, it's time for change.

I agree totally with Tracy's position on the issue but I really don't think it's the issue thats going to drive Obey out of the district. I think the marriage amendment, taxes-jobs, and the war are stronger issues to run on. For me I'm upset about the border too, but I'm more concerned with the other issues....

How about "37 years is too long for anyone to be a horse's ass, let alone YOUR CONGRESSMAN" That ought to send the message.

Go Nick Go!

People are angry about the border, but I think its right to say that it is not an issue that will drive out Obey.

Well, I just hope the smaller county parties in the district can deliver. The current rule of thumb out there is that "the battle will be won south of Hwy 8." That may be true to a certain degree, but if you take a look at Scott West's '94 run, He did really well in Marathon and Portage, but the smaller counties are what killed him off.

Turnout, turnout, turnout....It's all about turnout. Does anyone out there know of any literature drops in Rusk County? I live west of Ladysmith, and am wondering if the party is doing literature drops. I am too old to help, but I just wanted to know. I fear Obey may take Rusk if Reid doesn't get his name out there more.

For those with a little to spare, you can help Nick get his name out by contributing. He has a at the ready.

I agree with "West of Ladysmith". It's all turnout. And, I agree with bill that we need to contribute, but, it is really important for the county party to do at least one major literature drop in the month of October, especially in a campaign where the guy you are trying to beat can spend the county median income 25 times over.

Isn't Jeff Tyberg in Rusk county now? Maybe he'd throw one together....He's pretty good at pulling folks together.

The reason I suggested that border security might be the winning issue is that it pulls marginal Democrats toward our side. Some people don't know why they're Democrats and this could make them seriously question why they should keep on voting that way (ala Reagan Democrats).

Our side is more interested in the other issues you mentioned, but border security is by no means an issue that would lose conservative votes (other than from those traitors who keep hiring illegals).

...and the issue is already on Nick's platform, so he doesn't have to change anything, just emphasize what he's already running on.

Marriage Amendment - 53% majority
Border Security - 70+% super majority

Only hardcore Democrats (like Obey) and RINOs want to keep our borders open.

Nick lost, our party lost and the district lost.

Get out of politics, nicky.
