Who Ya Gonna Call - Pork Busters

Americans For Prosperity is holding a rally today to call on Dave Obey to fulfill Democrats' campaign promises to bring more transparency to the earmark process. Obey has proven that he will simply practice business as usual when it comes to running the appropriations committee.

Here's the press release:

In response to Congressman David Obey's attempt to hide pork-barrel earmarks from American taxpayers, I'm excited to announce that Americans for Prosperity's Wisconsin chapter will hold a grassroots rally tomorrow, June 14, outside of Congressman David Obey's home office in Wausau in support of pork-barrel transparency.

At the rally, grassroots taxpayers from Congressman Obey's district will call on him to release all of the pork-barrel earmark requests he has received from rank-and-file Members of Congress so they and other taxpayers around the country can help the Appropriations Committee Chairman evaluate their merits.

We'll also present Congressman Obey's staff with the names of hundreds of Americans who have volunteered to help him review more than 36,000 requests for pork-barrel spending. Just one day after AFP helped kick off an online petition drive, more than 700 Americans have signed up to help the overworked Chairman.

Our rally will also feature a giant pork-barrel pig, which our members plan to rename in Chairman Obey's honor.

If you're in the Wausau area tomorrow, be sure to join us at Noon on the sidewalk outside Congressman Obey's office at First Star Plaza , 401 5th Street , in Wausau .

And if you haven't already done so, be sure to sign our online petition at Porkbusters.org/petition/.

Wow. Americans For Prosperity.

A group headed by aguy mamed Grover Norquist who has has been close friends with Jack Abramhoof since college, when he ran Abramoff’s successful campaign to become national chairman of the College Republicans. Crap, you're depending on his leadership to light a fire for us next year?

But there's more: Norquist and lawyer David Safavian (who was later sentenced to 18 months in prison for lying and obstruction in connection with dealings with Abramoff) founded a lobbying firm, the Merritt Group, later renamed Janus-Merritt Strategies, a registered as a lobbyist for the government of Pakistan, the government of Gabon, and Pascal Lissouba, the corrupt former president of the Republic of the Congo, and the American Muslim Council and Abdurahman Alamoudi, a fierce supporter of Hamas and Hezbollah.

Norquist also has received an award from the National Coalition to Protect Political Freedom (NCPPF), a civil liberties group headed by Al-Arian. This award was for Norquist’s work to abolish the use of secret intelligence evidence in terrorism cases, a position our inept president had adopted in the 2000 campaign. After the September 11th, 2001 attacks, the NCPPF urged Muslims not to cooperate with the U.S. government.

Even neo-Con Tucker Carlson has reffered to referred to Norquist as a "mean-spirited, humorless, dishonest little creep ... an embarrassing anomaly, the leering, drunken uncle everyone else wishes would stay home...[he] is repulsive, granted, but there aren't nearly enough of him to start a purge trial"

And how about an infamous statement Norquist made awhile back: "I don't want to abolish government. I simply want to reduce it to the size where I can drag it into the bathroom and drown it in the bathtub."

And damn good friends with Tom Delay as well. You are taking us further and further back in time.

Thanks.

How the hell does that change anything about the moral standing of Obey?

Where has "Americans For Prosperity" been since 1994, when our own party started the budget-busting deficit-exploding add ons that ledus to this point.... plus the fact that after the November elections, NOTHING was done by our own party on the 2007 budget, which left the current congress holding the bag to reconcile two years worth of work.

When are you going to talk about REAL issues that might actually swing the voters in the center, instead of continuing to post the the drivel sent from your handlers in Washington??????

This is all CRAP.

When is the curtain coming down and Nick announces he is running again? We need his leadership, Christian values and connections to the party to win next year, and the sooner he announces the better off we will all be be.

I AGREE! ENOUGH OF THESE LIBERAL FAKERS! PLEASE NICK, IN HIS NAME, WE NEED YOU TO REPRESENT OUR MORAL AND CHRISTIAN VALUES IN WASHINGTON! YOU ARE THE ONLY CANDIDATE THAT CAN STOP THE EVIL CONGRESS THAT WE NOW HAVE.

AND WE NEED NICK TO PUT GOD AND PRAYER BACK IN THE SCHOOLS AND CLASSROOM. THE EVOLUTIONIST ATHIEISTS HAVE BROUGHT OUT COUNTRY TO THE BRINK OF MORAL IMPLOSION, TEACHING THAT WE ARE DESCENDENTS OF MONKEYS, AND ONLY GOOD LEADERS LIKE NICK CAN SET THINGS RIGHT!

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! NICK RUN AGAIN!

P.S. IN CASE THOSE LIBERALS TRY TO ARGUE: BABIES AREN'T BORN AS MONKEYS AND WE DON'T SPEAK MONKEY, WHICH DISPROVES EVOLUTION. NOW GO AWAY!

THIS IS NOT SPAM!

Hi,

I did a Google Blog Search for pork barrel spending and your blog was one of the results that came back. I have recently launched a site titled AZAMATTEROPRINCIPLE at www.no-pork.blogspot.com that is dedicated to fighting pork barrel spending and the resulting corruption by our federal government. The site pulls together in one place information and searchable/interactive databases regarding earmarks.

I am interested in getting likeminded bloggers to at least initially build a link list of blogs that either exclusively or primarily focus on eliminating pork barrel spending and/or restricting government spending. Eventually I want to put together a blogger coalition that others can join and publicize. I hope to include on-line petitions, polls, etc. to force our elected representatives to address this vital issue.

As I said above, THIS IS NOT SPAM. I am personally sending this out one e-mail at a time. If you would like to get involved I only ask that you respond to this e-mail with the URL of your blog and the title you would like me to use in the link list. I am not even asking you to put a link to my blog on there site (of course you are free to do so.)

All I am asking is that you check out AZAMATTEROPRINCIPLE at www.no-pork.blogspot.com and then reply to this e-mail if you would like to join together in this effort or click on the JOIN COFFERS link on the website.

Thank you,

Brad Marston

Wow.

Another whacko right-wing website that tries to disguise iself as a non-partisan world saver.... It even links the Heritage Foundation, Americans for Prosperity and The Club for Growth as favored groups. How frigging pathetic.
Why weren't the idiots screaming this steaming BS the previous 6 years?

Our presidents approval rating is down to 26%, included among that number are the morons that run this site who, it can be presumed, still approve of the job Nixon did.

I posted this a few weeks ago...I knew he'd be back...

I am curious to see who the crazy liberal in conservative clothing is voting for in 2008 - both presidential and congressional. He bashes a lot, but never seems to offer a solution....it's always "typical" "right wing whacko" or "extreme conservatism" or "cheap free blog." Please, enlighten us grasshopper...how have we been misguided? who SHOULD we vote for in 2008?

My guess, his response will be something like this, "Typical. Just another whacko conservative trying to change the subject at hand. You should stop promoting Nickie Reid and focus on someone who represents our true conservative values. Everyone running represents the futile spewing of lord and dictator Bush."

Some people want the whacko off the bolg, but he is the same kind of person that is an alcoholic but won't admit it, or a crazy person that thinks they are of a sound mind. He makes us look better, not worse. Let him continue his blathering because he doesn't get it and never will.

Cheers!

3:44 your right in the sense that he makes us look better, and I don't mind his idiotic rantings. But the constant cutting and pasting of articles in liberal mags is quite old. Come up your own material or post a link. Especially these dumb anti-Bush stories that have nothing to do with the post being discussed.

It has EVERYTHING to due with the post being discussed, nit. Bush and Cheney have led our party to the brink of total destruction, and THAT is the real issue we face in the next election. Attacking Obey is worthless when the Dems can counter that our district "leadership" and their chosen candidate, Nick reid, are Bush protege's.

Get a clue.

To 4:44, you would have more credibility if you would answer the questions posed by 3:44. If all you do is criticize, why should we listen?

That, my friend, is the problem with the Dems. The are very good at pointing out a problem, but do a horrible job at pointing to a solution.

5:59 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

....and our party has become all too good at creating the problems, with no concern for the American public, our soldiers, or our party itself.

My answer is simple: We need to drop the religious right hijacking that has taken over our party and return to our true principles.

Your answer is to offer find yet another extremist clone to spout Rovian dogma, and try to defeat Obey with negativism.

Your time is over. Get used to it.

I'm no liberal, but our President's commuting of Scooter Libby's sentence is the final straw for me. Saying that serving any time in prison for a serious violation of law is "excessive" is as bad, if not worse, then anything Clinton did.

I am no longer going to vote straight Republican, and now consider myself an Independent. I will decide for myself who to vote for in the future, rather than follow our local leaders who still defend Bush.

Mr. Liberal,
No one takes you seriously because not only to you simply attack, but you come here under false pretense. You are clearly not a lifelong republican but a solid democrat and a very liberal one at that. And the fact that you cannot be honest about who you are makes you irrelevant.
This sort of seminar blogger crap fools no one. Especially since you make the same claim before every post on virtually every topic that you end up being a lefty on.
Furthermore, you need to see a shrink, this conspiracy theory you have about Nick Reid and Karl Rove is bizarre and completely baseless in fact. Reid never worked for the Bush administration, opposed several of Bush's key domestic policies, and received no money from the RNC or any other national organizations. Those people have forsaken the district to Obey until he dies or retires.

I'm not sure who 1:14 is, but it's obvious he will accuse anyone to the left of his (her?) own views of being a "liberal". This does nothing to improve our situation.

However, in an effort to disprove some of the "anti-Reid" poster insinuations (and to avoid being caught off guard in future elections), I did some research into some things that have been posted here in the past, as well as.

Reid (obviously) did work for the Heritage Foundation (and does so again). This IS one of the more powerful of the ultra-religious organizations active today, boasts some serious connections to other extremely right organizations and some pretty hefty financial numbers to boot.

How Reid got his job with former Kansas congressman Jim Ryun does, apparently, have connections to the Heritage Foundation.

When Jim Ryun bought a house in D.C. on December 15, 2000, he paid $410,000 when the previous owner had paid $429,000 for it almost two years earlier. Ryun got this sweetheart "deal" from the U.S. Family Network, a close ally of the Heritage Foundation.

The USFN is an organization that is now also proven to have been used as a slush fund and all-purpose political favor mill through which Jack Abramhoff funneled money to former Tom Delay staffer Ed Buckham, as well as lots of Delay's pet political causes including funding other religious right candidates.

Someone here will immediately cry "conspiracy theory", but facts are facts. It's apparent Reid was placed in his position with Ryun by the HF and the USFN just so he could claim to have some political background before moving to Rice Lake.

I, however, am not blaming Reid: he was just another tool for these people, nothing less.

We made the mistake by being blindsided into thinking he was the only candidate that we should nominate. As I mentioned earlier, I will not be caught off guard in future elections, and I think there are many others that feel the same.

Much of US Favors Bush Impeachment: Poll

I apoligize for the much maligned "cut and paste", but a serious case of reality is needed for some of my fellow Republicans closeted in tiny rooms in the 7th Distict.

'WASHINGTON (AFP) - Nearly half of the US public wants President George W. Bush to face impeachment, and even more favor that fate for Vice President Dick Cheney, according to a poll out Friday.

The survey by the American Research Group found that 45 percent support the US House of Representatives beginning impeachment proceedings against Bush, with 46 percent opposed, and a 54-40 split in favor when it comes to Cheney.

The study by the private New Hampshire-based ARG canvassed 1,100 Americans by telephone July 3-5 and had an error margin of plus or minus three percentage points. The findings are available on ARG's Internet site.

The White House declined to comment on the poll, the latest bad news for a president who has seen his public opinion standings dragged to record lows by the unpopular war in Iraq.

The US Constitution says presidents and vice presidents can be impeached -- that is, formally charged by the House -- for "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors" by a simple majority vote.

Conviction by the Senate, which requires a two-thirds majority, means removal from office.

Just two US presidents have been impeached: Bill Clinton was impeached in 1998 and acquitted in 1999; Andrew Johnson was impeached and acquitted in 1868. Disgraced president Richard Nixon resigned in 1974 when a House impeachment vote appeared likely.

In late April, left-wing Representative Dennis Kucinich, a long-shot Democratic presidential hopeful, introduced a resolution calling for Cheney's impeachment. To date, the measure has nine listed co-sponsors and a 10th set to sign on when the House returns to work next week.'

And his "approval" rating has dropped below 30%. Attacking Obey does us no good. We need to face the reality that our leadership sold us out to the far right and big business, admit it publically, and start talking about POSITIVE change from our party in 2008.

Nice blog! Thanks for the great conservative perspective :). I am trying to get a conservative digg alternative going called GOP Hub (GOPhub.com). Anything you can do to help get the word out would be awesome. Plus you can post links on it to any articles you write here on your blog. At any rate, have a great weekend and keep up the good work!
