The Word is Spreading

GOP-SPOT agreed with us about Obey's so-called campaign finance bill today. As we've said here, here, here (and that's just since the beginning of April) and actually more times than we can count or care to link to, this legislation is a joke. If Obey's serious, we say, agree to a campaign spending limit like Nick Reid challenged you to several months back (oh and anything you've spent since the challenge should count). We're guessing his answer is no (see this for why it may be it may be with stronger language).

It would be in Obey's interest to limit his spending that way he'll have more in his bank account when he retires this year!

Look at it this way-Jeff can back out now and save himself the embarrassment of getting crushed in a primary, get himself more organized (raise $) and come back in a couple years to run for something else (the Congressional seat will be filled by Reid, though), or he will never run another campaign again. Anybody who runs against him in the future would be able to point at this campaign and laugh.

This theory that you can just run your own campaign in one of the largest congressional districts in the country CANNOT work. You might have a chance if you surround yourself with people who have been involved in political campaigns before, but a solo campaign is a waste of resources. You can have a great message, which I agree with, but you have to have $$$$$$$ to spread the message. Even if you were to beat Nick, how would you compete with a 37 year political veteran with $800,000? Come on!!!

Here's a challenge- Jeff, you can show everybody that you have raised some money, have a staff, have campaign offices, have a volunteer base, have party support (national, state and local) and have political common sense I will vote for you in September. If you cannot prove any of those, you are fooling yourself and hurting Nick's chance to win the district. Every day you stay in this race you hold Reid's campaign back. You are blocking money and support.

Is this really about the people of the 7th, or is this about Jeff Tyberg? Because if it is about the people, Jeff, than you have to take a clear look at the facts. If you cannot accept them now, how could we ever trust you as a congressman?

I've heard you speak a few times and you continue to assure people that your campaign is going well. This is reaching a state of craziness!

How about this-Have the party do some sort of an endorsement thing. Have the county leaders or county party members decide. If you have such a strong campaign you'd jump at chance to crush Reid.

I don't want to seem like I'm jumping on the bandwagon to hammer Jeff here because he's a really nice guy, but I recently saw an e-mail where his campaign actually said something to the effect of, "our campaign is still alive and kicking." I'm sorry, but if you have to say that, you aren't.

Second point is a question to Jeff. You've said you don't need money to win this race, so my question is, can you name for me one candidate for Congress who has won their race without raising money in the last 30 years? I can't.

If we were looking for a sacrificial lamb to run an issues-based race againt Obey so we would have a name on the ballot, Jeff's the guy. Unfortunately, Jeff has shown no evidence that he can run a Congressional campaign capable of actually winning - he has no money, no staff, no offices, no campaign materials, no national support, no real presence at the state convention, no one of note endorsing him and on and on and on.

Sorry to pile on because I really do like you Jeff, but please look at the reality of the situation and gracefully step aside.
