Democrats Lose Bid to Raise Their Own Pay

Republicans Stop Democrat Attempt to Raise Congressional Pay

Apparently, Congressional Democrats didn't really mean it last fall when they said they wouldn't accept a pay raise until the minimum wage was raised. The Dems tried to strike a deal with Republicans to let the new pay raise take effect February 16th. Republicans said no.

It's real convenient to act all high and mighty when saying anything to win an election. Good for Republicans in holding the Dems feet to the fire.

Please read an article you site before you make up an obvious and misleading title for a post. Lying does not make us look any better. The article says nothing about the Dems wanting a pay raise. Quote:

"At issue is the annual congressional cost of living adjustment, or COLA, under which lawmakers automatically get a pay hike unless Congress votes to block it.

Democratic and Republican leaders had worked cozily for years to make sure an annual pay-related vote went smoothly.

Under the agreement, the annual vote came on an obscure procedural move _ instead of a direct up-or-down vote _ and the Democratic and GOP whips each delivered a roughly equal number of votes to shut off any move to block the pay hike.
That arrangement fell apart when Democrats announced last summer they would opt out of the pay raise until Congress acted to raise the minimum wage. (READ THIS AGAIN: THE DEMS STOPPED THE RAISE, SFB)

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ran ads attacking Republicans for taking pay raises while blocking numerous attempts to raise the minimum wage.
A top House GOP leader said Democrats broke the agreement last year after the pay raise-related vote had already taken place. In a 263-152 vote in June, the House blocked a bid by Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, to force an up-or-down vote on the pay raise.
"The agreement always was that the parties would not use the COLA issue in the campaign," said House GOP Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri. "It was as formal as anything not signed is."

In December, a GOP-drafted bill delayed implementation of the pay raise until Feb. 16. Democratic leaders tried in recent days to craft language to delay the pay raise a few more weeks or months to provide more time for the minimum wage bill to advance into law.
Republicans said no."

Busted: Your post is, yet again, a lie.

Per the Washington Post (not exactly a pro-Republican publication) -

The Headline of the story reads:

"Republicans Block House Pay Raise"

The lead of the story reads:

"House Democratic leaders Monday abandoned attempts to revive an annual pay raise cherished by rank and file lawmakers, a decision prompted by lingering GOP anger over last year's campaign."

The discussions in Washington were whether Democrats would have the votes to delay implementation of the pay raise a few more weeks till they could get the minimum wage passed or whether to do away with the pay raise all together. The Republicans said no raise this year at all.

But why would our party continue to accept the pay raise while denying a minimum wage increae for all Americans?????????

The Dems are the ones who stopped this: OUR leadership is keeping people in OUR district from making more money.

JESUS CHRIST.... get a clue.

ENOUGH ALREADY! Do not take His name in vain again, please.

The district needs a wake up call. We are being attacked and our values as a Christian Society are being challenged. We are now living in a nation of immortality and decadence, and only someone of faith can see the just road that MUST be taken. God will only help those who choose to help themselves. We've had signs that things are going to change (look at Tim Johnson) and now is the time!

When do we hear what Nick is doing right now and when will he announce for 2008? To elect someone who represents our values, not Obey who is way out of step after 37 years, we HAVE to start now to WIN!

Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Praise be to Jesus, our Saviour.

The minimum wage was fabricated by white unions back in the 30s to make it easier for businesses to discriminate against blacks who were willing to work the same job for a lower wage. Just like the confederate flag, we need to kill this symbol of oppression against the minorities in our society because of the color of their skin.

I aggree! God deos not want slavry or the minumum wage, in fact we should all be hapy just to work for whatevr we get, in his name.

1 Timothy 6:1-2 Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them.

SEE?? Evil with Obey's name on it, in the Bible!!!!!! More proff that our time is at hnad!

10:28,

Lie down before you hurt yourself (and use a spell checker). I don't know about the Bible verses, but just use the "common sense" that Obey is always gassing on about. Our standard of living is higher because of our economy, not because we have a minimum wage. Minimum wage hurts the economy, because its really a business tax. I refer you to the works of Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell. They articulate much better than I.

Republicans Block Senate Debate On Iraq

Feb 5, 2007 — WASHINGTON

(Reuters) - Republicans blocked a debate on the Iraq war in the U.S. Senate on Monday, dealing a setback to critics of President George W. Bush's plan to send in thousands more troops, but Democrats warned they would not give up trying to force Bush to change course.

The Republican opponents said the measure, sponsored by Virginia Republican Sen. John Warner, was a thinly disguised political slap at Bush that would dishearten U.S. troops and signal American disunity.

Republicans largely united to employ Senate rules against the newly elected Democratic majority to derail the debate on a resolution expressing disagreement with Bush's plan to deploy an additional 21,500 troops in Iraq.
Democrats vowed to return to the subject when it considers billions more in funding for the Iraq war requested by Bush on Monday.

The resolution would not have been binding on the president, but it was the first serious attempt by Congress to confront Bush over the unpopular war.

Supporters said the resolution would be a first step, a warning to Bush that he must revamp his strategy to start moving toward a withdrawal of the 138,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.

"I am troubled by this," said Illinois Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin. "If the Republicans in the Senate cannot swallow the thin soup of the Warner resolution how will they ever stomach a real debate on the war in Iraq?"

We dot'n need the evils of the minumum waage made wors. All shud be happy with wat GOD has given and celebrat that.

Luke 10:7 “Stay in that house, eating and drinking what they give you; for the laborer is worthy of his wages.” See? The laborurs have enough!

Obey and the the Democrat are evilly trying to push the poor away from God.

Proverbs 13:23 “Abundant food is in the fallow ground of the poor, But it is swept away by injustice.”

WE need Obey gone from her!

How cliche, 5:08. You're good enough to write speeches for Al Sharpton. Have you sent your resume to his office?

Next thing you know he'll be using the minor prophets to justify socialism or some horse shit like that.

There is something that I have been wanting to get off my chest. I made the 12:01 post. In one of the debates in last election in my hometown of the city of Superior, Dave Obey said (referring to Northwest Wisconsin) that this "area" will never be a Chicago or Milwaukee.

Bob Dylan writes about a town that shuts down in his song "North Country Blues" that I think captures the situation well:

The summer is gone,
The ground's turning cold,
The stores one by one they're a-foldin'.
My children will go
As soon as they grow.
Well, there ain't nothing here now to hold them.

Now, Dave will craftily reiterate his statement put in a different and slightly broken nasal tone: "But it WONT be!" But that is just bullshit. No one expects it to be. What Dave and his liberal buddies fail to see is that the economic death of NW Wisconsin is creating an exodus of young people, and as a result there is a culture in NW WI that is dying. While Dave sits on his crusty ass drinking Merlot in his suburban life in DC, he pushes policies and speaks in political tones which destroy and do not create. I was raised in Superior, my grandfather was raised in the Spooner, the exodus of young people from these areas for economic reasons is crippling the culture.

From your statement, I take it that it is only the intelligent young people that are leaving.

Said,

Not at all. As it is with ANY culture, you need young people to pass it on (the culture, that is), whether they be exceptionally bright or stupid, educated or not, it doesn't matter.

I sense that you were trying to force me to conclude that only the stupid people are left in NW WI. You may get that attitude from someone who drinks Merlot, but not from me, because I don't believe it.

(Thanks for playing)
